Scene 6 – Set 5 (Mike’s Club “HATS”) – Song #27
The lights return to bright. It's 8:00 in the evening at the club. MIKE and JENNY are still at the table having just completed the song “Dream Come True.” Mike grabs Jenny's hand and motions with his head for her to join him on stage.
MIKE
Common.
Mike motions to TOM and STEVE to join them on stage. Song #27 – “I Found You” begins. The background vocals are in red. They are performed by Tom and Steve where indicated.
JENNY
I know now the road to heaven is not a straight line.
I've stumbled and I've fallen down it seems a million times.
I lost faith in fairy tales that end in the words “I Do.”
But that was then, before I found you.
JENNY & MIKE
I found you. (I found you.)
Now gray skies have turned deep blue.(I love you.)
All my hopes and daydreams have come true.(They have come true.)
I thank the Lord (I thank the Lord)

MIKE
I could never understand the fuss made over love.
Free time, parties, hanging with friends always seemed enough.
Playing house and raising kids are not things that I do.
But that was then, before I found you.

Jenny and Mike embrace. Steve comes to them holding a narrow rectangular box.
SERVER
I don’t mean to interrupt you love birds, but an elderly couple just handed this to me at the door. They insisted I give it to Jenny – that only she would understand.
SERVER hands the box to Jenny. She acts surprised, yet curious. She has Mike hold it and then Jenny opens the cover tipping it backwards so it rests against Mike's arms revealing the contents. Inside are two long-stemmed roses. Jenny puts her hands together as if in prayer and parts them as she brings them to her lips covering her mouth for a moment before removing them to speak.
JENNY
Oh my God.
Tears come to her eyes. Mike looks on dumbfounded.
MIKE
What? Is everything all right?
JENNY
Everything is great.
Jenny takes the long-stemmed roses from the box and hands one to Mike.
This is for you.
End of Scene 6, ACT III. The Grand Finale begins during the applause.
